Biewer, Biewer Terrier, Terrier Biewer of Pruett's "Dream Babies"
" I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in Him, bears much fruit;
for without Me you can do nothing.    John 15:5
The Biewer Terrier is not a Yorkie and we feel the name should not reflect the Yorkshire in any way. For this reason we will be registering our dogs with the Biewer Terrier Registry of America. We are excited about the advancements that have been made toward the recognition of the Biewer Terrier and look forward to a growing relationship with like minded enthusiast.

Look for those breeders that display the
        "Breeding for Excellence" BTRA banner.
This is your way of knowing that you are receiving a true, DNA-Verified purebred Biewer Terrier dog or puppy.
The BTCA, Inc. is setting up the foundation for a Biewer Terrier Rescue program. This is a program we hope will never have to be used, but as with many new breeds being established, not all people will have the dogs best interest at heart.

If you have information about a Biewer Terrier in need please contact BTR.  Thank you for your help and support.

The BTCA, INC. has crossed another milestone. We have been accepted by one of Germany's most prestigious clubs the UCI e.V. - Union Cynologie International e. V. (UCI e.V.). This is a great achievement for the club as we are now authorized to award International Championships to all dogs that have earned their show points. The BTCA is striving to make these titles prestigious and will be issuing them to dogs that fit the standard and are worthy of being named show dogs.

Although the other club says that one UCI does not carry any more importance that another in Germany, this is not true. The UCI e.V. - Union Cynologie International e. V. (UCI e.V.) is the organization that governs the IABCA where all International titles are awarded. This is the only German club of any importance in America.
The CAR (Companion Animal Recovery ID System™) program is an AKC micro chipping program that has listed the Biewer Terrier as a distinct breed of its own. We strongly recommend micro chipping your dogs in case of any disaster that may occur.
Forums and chat rooms are becoming quite popular and can be a great source of information.  Closed forums are not "Public Minded" and are dangerous in the fact that they don't always present the truth.  There is no educating the public in this environment.  Also those forums that will not allow people to register and defend themselves when being slandered by people that love spreading gossip, should be consider nothing more than a cheap tabloid with very little value.

We are a member of the BTCA, Inc. (Biewer Terrier Club of America, Inc.). The BTCA, Inc. was formed to educate the public about the Biewer Terrier Breed and to be able to submit for recognition of the Biewer Terrier to AKC and UKC. You  may go to the BTCA, Inc. site for more information. Their breeders have years of experience and are more than happy to help you with any questions you may have. The BTCA, Inc. is directly responsible for getting the Biewer Terrier recognized by ARBA. This is a major step towards the Biewer Terrier being recognized as a breed distinctly its own.
THE TRUTH BEHIND THE
INTERNATIONAL ALL BREED CLUB OF AMERICA (IABCA)
AND BIEWER TERRIER CLUB OF AMERICA (BTCA)
REGARDING “Fraudulent” TITLES

The Officers of the BTCA would like to clarify the “Myth” and inaccurate account behind the alleged fraudulent titles issued on earned National Titles by Gayle Pruett then presiding BTCA president and Myrna Torres, BTCA secretary/treasurer.

There have never been any “forged” titles issued to any members, past or present, at any time. It was discovered after issuing National and International titles to our club members, that a few of the National titles were missing the BTCA logo and had the IABCA logo on them.  The titles in question were the result of a printing error on the original prototypes where the IABCA logo was on a few of National titles.  This is the template used by the UCI e.V. and in turn, permission was granted to both the IABCA and the BTCA to use. Gunther Knoben, UCI e.V.  President told us to fashion our National titles after the IABCA titles, as they used all of the UCI e.V. templates.

Members of the BTCA began showing with the IABCA in 2004, yet would not receive titles earned for 1 ½ to 2 years later.  Upon further investigation it was discovered that the Biewer was not an accepted breed with the UCI e.V. under which the IABCA is sanctioned to issue International titles.  It was at this time that Ilona Shanklin current BTCA president worked diligently with Gunther Knoben to get the Biewer Terrier recognized with the IABCA. http://www.uci-ev.de/english_site/news.htm  Through Ilona’s efforts the BTCA, Inc. became a member of the UCI e.V. and was accepted as the parent club for the Biewer Terrier. http://www.uci-ev.de/english_site/index_en.htm, then click on nat. umbr. organisations.

As a member of the UCI e.V. the BTCA, Inc. has been granted the authority to issue National and International titles to its members and all Biewer Terriers that qualify.  It is important to understand that the BTCA has had an ongoing issue with the IABCA not using the proper name of the breed, "Biewer Terrier" as accepted by the UCI e.V., on the National and International Titles.  They are not sanctioned to be issuing titles to; “Biewer”, “Biewer a la Pom Pon”, or “Parti Yorkies”! It was for this reason that the BTCA started issuing titles.

For this, the Officers of the BTCA would like to issue the following truth behind the titles.  On May 8, 2010, a Board member was in attendance at the IABCA show in Orlando Florida when it was brought to her attention there was an issue regarding alleged “fraudulent titles” being issued by the BTCA.  Our Director was not fully aware of what the issue was, but it was pointed out that the IABCA logo was on a BTCA issued National Title.  The Director apologized and said the matter would be immediately taken care of and would contact Gayle Pruett and Myrna Torres to resolve the issue. UNDERSTAND, THE BTCA HAS THE RIGHT UNDER UCI e.V. membership to issue INTERNATIONAL TITLES, which are purchased from the UCI e.V. and to also issue NATIONAL TITLES under the UCI e.V logo and BTCA logo.

During the course of that week, numerous calls went into IABCA to try and resolve the issue, along with contacting all BTCA members that had received titles, to see just how many faulty titles had gone out. After not receiving any return calls or emails from the IABCA, we thought the matter had been rectified.  Two months later, on June 25, 2010 the IABCA emailed every one of their contenders, of all breeds, from the previous 3 years, accusing Gayle Pruett and Myrna Torres of issuing fraudulent National Titles.  However, the IABCA found no fault or intent with Myrna Torres, Secretary/Treasurer of the BTCA and for unknown reasons choose instead to pursue Gayle Pruett rather than to resolve the issue amicably and privately.

The BTCA has apologized to IABCA for this over sight and hopes that the IABCA will do the same.  Due to the extreme malice of a few EX-MEMBERS, the situation was blown totally out of proportion.  The only intent of said persons by posting on forums and other Internet sites, was to cause personal and reputational harm to the BTCA and its executive board.

Mars research and the Wisdom Panel
The BTCA, Inc. did not rely on the testing of the wisdom panel to ascertain that the Biewer was a separate breed from the Yorkie. First of all, many of the breeders in the club are long time Yorkie breeders. After acquiring their Biewers they saw the huge differences between the breeds that could not be attributed to one little color gene. This prompted them to start researching pedigrees where they found discrepancies and dates that were not matching up. At the time they had also visited many of the Kennels in Germany, whether personally or through family.

Members then sent in 10 blood samples to the Wisdom Panel and the head geneticist for Mars research contacted Us. They were fascinated with the fact that what they thought were a bunch of mutts being submitted for testing, were actually all clumping together in there own little group away from any other group. Thus the beginning of a research program that has nothing to do with the Wisdom Panel.

We spoke with J.P. about our breed, the given history and our thoughts. He told us the Wisdom Panel did not do what we wanted but he would love to work with us on another level. He would then take in over 100 blood samples, some of which were coming in from non members and do a haplotype analysis on the breed for us. These men whether they work for Mars, Purina, Royal Canin, Johnson $ Johnson, or whoever are canine geneticists that specialize in one field or another.

Two years of research and the bottom line is, the Biewer Terrier is a breed distinctly its own, not a Yorkshire Terrier. Their expertise and equipment cannot tell us exactly what breeds make up the Biewer Terrier, but they were able to give us the 7 closest related genetically. We are now in contact with a geneticist that can and is not affiliated with any company. Thus we can knock out the malediction of the uneducated people that want to argue with everything the BTCA, Inc. does. So the lengthy explanation posted on another site, of what the Wisdom Panel can do has nothing to do with the research we were involved in with Mars.

No matter what is said and done, at the end of the day there is only one club in the world that has the backing and support of the co-originator of the breed and that is the BTCA, Inc. There is only one club that is testing, researching, and breeding for the betterment of the breed and that is the BTCA, Inc.

The other club has the guidance of 2 MiKi breeders, that have nothing to do with Biewers. One of which has ripped many people off and has been known to mix a few breeds herself. They have a made up standard that was never approved of by anyone other than the MiKi breeders themselves. They continue to register and breed all the mix breeds that a person can think of that look like a Biewer. There is only one true purebred registry and that is BTRA. Until the other registries quit accepting foreign registrations on American born Biewers, you will not stop the BYB, and the Puppy Mill Greeders.
Beware of people selling Biewer look a likes on the Internet.
People selling F1's and F2's have usually used run of the MILL dogs, and for no other reason than to make money and ruin the breed. It has nothing to do with bettering the breed what so ever.

The BTCA, Inc. has proven that the Biewer Terrier is a distinct breed of its own with the use of science. It was through an extensive genetic study on the Biewer Terrier, that we were able to distinguish it from any other known purebred breed. When a registry does not require DNA testing on all breeding dogs, it is very easy to falsify parentage on pedigrees. Science has given us more tools to help us better our breeding programs and we will take advantage of all it has to offer.

I strongly suggest you make sure your dogs are registered with a reputable registry like the Biewer Terrier Registry of America (BTRA).  We are working hard to establish a purebred Biewer Terrier foundation in America, so watch where you buy your puppy, and look for the BTRA banner of "Breeding for Excellence".  So many other registries are registering anything submitted to them with no proof of authenticity and no proof of testing performed on their puppies.  For this reason, BTRA will not accept any registrations from IBC or registries that accept IBC registrations.

You will find many  BTCA, Inc. members doing the Mars test, to prove they are breeding Purebred Biewer Terriers, and have a DNA profile done on all breeding dogs to prove parentage.
